Sheriff’s officials in Palmdale issued a child abduction alert Friday evening for a 3-month-old girl allegedly taken by her father, who might be armed with a handgun.
Officials said Ashley Young was abducted around 11:40 a.m. from 803 Palmdale Blvd.
The baby girl was wearing a top decorated with red cherries and pink pants.
The suspect was identified as Ellsworth Jerome Young, 28, who is black, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. Officials said he may be armed with a semi-automatic handgun.
The suspect was in a car with his girlfriend when he allegedly punched her, “causing a black eye,” sheriff’s officials said in the alert.
“She ran into a check-cashing business to escape from him, leaving her 3-month-old infant in the car,” the alert said. “The suspect drove away with the child.”
Officials said Young was believed to be in a 2004 blue four-door Honda Element. The vehicle has damage to the driver’s side door and a broken driver’s side tail light.
The suspect’s vehicle was last spotted in Bakersfield just before 6 p.m. Friday, officials said.
The vehicle’s Washington State license plate is AFD 9769.
Anyone with information about the child whereabouts should call the Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale Station, 661-272-2400.
