The mother was found in a McDonald’s drive-thru.
Two children from southeastern Massachusetts were found safe Monday night after police say their mother kidnapped them Sunday afternoon.
According to the Lakeville Police Facebook page, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, 5-year-old Steven and 7-year-old Eden were last seen with Valerie McGrath, their mother who does not have legal custody. McGrath had picked up the children from their father’s house for a visit, and did not return.
There was urgency to find the children. Lakeville Police said that recent statements made by McGrath lead them to believe that the children might be in danger, and a warrant was out for her arrest on a charge of kidnapping by a relative.
Around 3:30 p.m. Monday, police received a call that McGarth and the children were seen in the town of Swansea. Lakeville Police said McGarth was eventually found in a McDonald’s drive-thru on Route 138 in Raynham by State Police. She was driving a different car, which she had rented in Fall River.
Police said the two children were in good health and released to the custody of their father. McGarth was arrested and brought to the Lakeville Police Department, where she is being held on $10,000 bail and will be arraigned on Tuesday in Wareham District Court.
